Head 30 minutes east of Naples and you’ll find the 500-year-old preserve, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. The 13,000 acre Everglades ecosystem is home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer, and red-bellied turtles. There are also a variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and Painted Bunting that can be seen throughout the year. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is best known for its 2.5-mile boardwalk leading to the largest, oldest growth of Bald Cypress forest in North America. Today, visitors can experience the ‘Super’ Ghost Orchid in bloom! It is the largest Ghost Orchid discovered so far.
