A Guide to 5 Florida Area Preserves

Exploring a Florida nature preserve located near your Vanderbilt Beach rental is an excellent way to enjoy the slower pace of vacation without sacrificing any fun. These spots are known for showcasing this region at its best.

  1. Found on Veterans Park Drive is Cocohatchee Creek Preserve. Parking is available at Veterans Park, which is only a short walk away. The 3.64-acre preserve is home to several native plants as well protected plant and wildlife species.
  2. The Naples Preserve is home to several attractions. Within the almost 10-acre site is a .4-mile-long boardwalk through two Florida Upland Habitats. This spot is also home to The Pollinator Garden and Hedges Family Eco-Center.
  3. Located on the east side of I-75 is Alligator Flag Preserve. Totaling just over 18 acres, the preserve is open from 8 a.m. to dusk. The area is home to habitats common in Collier County, like pine flatwoods, flooded cypress-pine-cabbage palms, and cypress wetlands.
  4. One of the larger preserves in Naples, Nancy Payton Preserve is roughly 71 acres in size. Perhaps the best way to explore this natural attraction is by following one of the two trails found within the preserve.
  5. While not technically in Naples, Hidden Cypress Preserve in neighboring Bonita Springs is an excellent addition to the list. The 428-acre area is home to various habitats, which means it attracts a variety of wildlife, including wading birds.
